Summary
Slumber Party Shanty was part of the 2016 and 2017 On-Ice Program with Art Shanty Projects. It was a participatory installation with performance elements - a platform for interaction and play, blurring the line between performer and audience, encouraging everyone to play an active role. Using the classic childhood slumber party event and its familiar activities, adults and kids alike had an opportunity to share and play with old and new friends. We engaged audiences upon entry by supplying simple costume pieces (oversized robes to fit over snowgear; slippers), encouraging buy-in from the beginning by taking on the role of slumber party guest.
Performers (as hosts, monsters, teddy bears) led games, stories, and other creative intergenerational play.
