BIO
Erin Lavelle (she/her) is a Minneapolis-based public artist working in interdisciplinary media: fiber arts, performance and social practice. Her work is informed by regular yoga and meditation practices, as well as a background in theatrical direction and design. She makes projects grounded in change and intimate exchange.
She has presented public work in Hennepin County Libraries, Minneapolis Parks, Richardson Nature Center, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and the Minnesota State Fair; at public art events (Northern Spark, Art Shanty Projects, Greenway Glow); and in galleries, including: Textile Center, Modus Locus, Intermedia Arts (Minneapolis); and 410 Project (Mankato).
She is a student of the 200+ year old Swedish folk art ‘hårarbete’, and is currently weaving hair of friends and loved ones into small objects of time that mark their pandemic experience.
She is the Artistic Director of Art Shanty Projects, the Program Director of Marine Mills Folk School, and was the longtime Producer for the Northern Spark Festival. Awards include a Hemera Foundation Tending Space Fellowship for Contemplative Artists, a Jerome Foundation Emerging Fiber Arts Grant, a Lanesboro Arts residency, and a Creative Individuals grant from Minnesota State Arts Board. She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College where she studied the integration of mindfulness practice and public art.
